For anyone who may have missed the news, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point today is is celebrating the first ever same sex marriage to be solemnized there. Masochists can read a report on the happy event here.
Rather than getting our knickers in a bunch over this, we would do better to understand that this really is not a big deal . . . it's just another sign of the extent to which the U.S. and all of the societies that comprise what has been known as western civilization have abandoned the values that enabled them to rise and become prosperous and powerful.
It behooves us to recognize that the U.S. is going down the drain along with the rest of western civilization. As it's the final stages of a normal cycle, there's probably nothing that can be done to avert the collapse. At best, there might be some slim opportunities for those averse to quietly going into the night to slow the downward spiral.
For those wishing to explore and understand this subject in greater depth, I recommend reading (i) Civilization: the West and the Rest by Niall Ferguson, and especially its two final chapters, and (ii) Mark Steyn's America Alone even though both authors and their books are more optimistic than the facts they cite warrant.
Recognizing the reality of where our society is headed will make it possible for individuals to plan and prepare for the future.
